game, set, but no match
May 21st, 2008this is a beautiful game you’ve set before me
i know all of your moves and oh how you move
your eyes from my face, your hands nervously shuffled
and your lips into a tightly pressed seal
but i am heavy and i lumber on
my eyes look aged and my hands are rough
fully aware that i am not close, i am not enough
but i’ll play by your rules once again
and hold back all hopes that i’ll win
what would the prize be anyway?
a soft touch by your hand
or a full glimpse of your face
have never meant all that much to me
and have been so easy to replace
so count me in for a round or maybe even two
i’m content just playing this game for you
